Brookfield’s David Luy defended his men’s title in Sunday’s 7th Annual Aurora Health Care Two Rivers 10-Mile with a finishing time of 51:48, falling just short of his winning time from last year of 51:43. Luy most recently won Milwaukee’s Lakefront Marathon last October in a time of 2:21:24 and used the Two Rivers 10-Mile as a tune-up for next month’s Boston Marathon.
Another Milwaukee area runner, Chase Rables of Oak Creek, place second in his Two Rivers 10-Mile debut in a time of 54:07.
Daniel Peters of Minneapolis, MN, who is also training for this year’s Boston Marathon, made his third Two Rivers 10-Mile appearance, and posted his 2nd top three finish in a time of 56:04.
In the women’s race, Laura Schmitz of Oshkosh, 2016 Two Rivers 10-Mile champion (1:05:24) and 2017 runner-up (1:04:02), posted her best Two Rivers 10-Mile performance with a winning time of 1:01:26.
Local standout and Two Rivers 10-Mile regular Nicole Strutz posted an impressive runner-up finish in a time of 1:03:39.
Callie Bartel (Green Bay), another frequent performer posted her fourth top 5 Two Rivers 10-Mile finish with a time of 1:03: 54.
Top masters finishers (40+) were Silver Lake College’s Cross Country Coach Brad Theyerl (Manitowoc) in a time of 58:28. Theyeral holds the 2-Mile overall record that he set last year. For the women masters, Traci Revis of Sheboygan won in a time of 1:18:39.
Top three overall male and female finishers earned $150.00, $125.00, and $100.00 respectively, while masters winners each received $50.00.
In the 2-Mile, local Two Rivers High School runner Conner Hartwig won the overall title in a time of 12:20. Aubree Kubicki (Kubicki), who last year teamed up with her parents (Ben and Jean Kubicki) to set a new coed relay record, captured the woman’s 2-Mile title in 13:34.
In the 3-Person Relay event, coed team “Runners that Run” (Caroline Manna, Anna Gallagher, and Zach Fries) edged out “Team Jansky” by only one second in the closest finish in event history. The teams ran 1:13:29 and 1:13:30 respectively. For the men’s relay, Two Rivers’s team “Junior Raiders” (Eli Gallagher, Bergin Schmid, and Carson Kadow) claimed the title in 1:18:07. In the female division, the title went to a Manitowoc team “Run Like a Mother” (Brianna Trainor, Sarah Reveal, and Katie Zolzinger) in a time of 1:34:47.
In Saturday night’s 1/3 Mile Kids’ Run (10 and under), Jordan Ostrom of Two Rivers set a new boy’s record in a time of 2:10.2. Rylee Timm was the top girl finisher in 2:15.7.
Nearly 400 runners competed in this year’s weekend of events. Proceeds benefit Two Rivers High School Athletic and Band Boosters.
